Belmore ITCH

A neighbourhood with a ceramics past

Friend and artist Anne Kay has been living with us and uncovering some of the local history in the area. Pates Pottery was a thriving ceramics industry based in Lakemba St, Belmore.  Established soon after WW2,  the first factory was built from recycled old war bunkers. This makes us feel O.K about still not having cash for 3 phase power. The studio at Pates Pottery specialised in mass produced slip cast earthenware with products that capitalised on a post war appetite for decorative household items.
